  • You and Your American Girl Doll

    Bring your American Girl Doll and get ready to have a blast. Design more clothes and accessories for your dolls, and create other crafts throughout the week. Read their stories and author your own, about you and your doll. Dress like your doll and we’ll have an American Girls party on Friday. (This is a wonderful complement to "American Girl Reality Theatre" Week 8PM.)

    ARTScetera-Pottery on the Wheel

    Make functional or sculptural objects with earthenware clay. Space is limited to allow each student maximum time on the potters wheel.  Some time may also be spent hand building. Working with a professional potter, you will explore the unique qualities of clay that make it so much fun to manipulate. All projects will be fired in the kiln and need to be picked up at a later date. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.

    This is your chance to see how real crime scene investigators solve real crimes. Be a detective for a week! Figure out "who-dunnit?" by using Forensic Arts like fingerprint lifting, shoe-print casting and Jenna's favorite, crime scene photography!

  • Pottery: Handmade by Me!

    Make useful or decorative objects with real clay, real pottery tools and the best tools of all, your hands!  Pottery handmade by you will have a special place in your home for years to come. You will hand build your objects and may also enjoy a wheel throwing demonstration. All projects will be fired in the kiln and need to be picked up at a later date.     ARTScetera-Fine Art: Drawing

    Ages: 7th - 9th grade

    Build your drawing skills by learning a variety of drawing techniques and exercises throughout the week. Students will explore charcoal and pencil, and finish off the week in color using pastels. Explore and expand on drawing skills: value, lighting, line and composition. Draw from still lives, which are interesting objects arranged for visual interest, so you can learn to draw what your eyes see and better coordinate hand and eye movement. Quick drawing exercises allow you to see progression in your drawing abilities daily as you work toward final drawing(s). This is a great foundation for any future fine arts opportunity.

    Explore a range of drawing and painting media this week as we try our hand at various techniques and look at famous artists for inspiration. Draw or paint or combine the two for unexpected and exciting results. Areas of study will include still life, splatter painting, and abstract art. Learn first hand from a working illustrator about processes used to create illustrations. Students will learn to use the materials at a more academic level while using non traditional materials to create projects as well.

    Explore foundation drawing and painting skills using a variety of color media throughout the week from oil pastels to acrylics. Students will start day 1 of camp drawing in black and white, and concentrate on learning to draw what "they see", using line, and understanding value. The rest of the week, students will explore color media while focusing on a variety of subjects in their art from still life and working from photographs featuring landscapes, animals, and more. Fine Art: Drawing, offered Week 1, is not required but is an excellent foundation that will greatly enhance your experience in this camp.

    Get to know the art of Printmaking, an ancient tradition with modern applications. Carve and cut your own designs into a printing plate or block using traditional carving tools, then ink it up with colors of your choice and print your original piece of art work. Explore traditional printmaking techniques such as linoleum and woodblock cuts, and use the printing press in this camp.

    Venture out and discover a beautiful site right here in our community! At Auburn Heights, steam cars and trains, landscapes and historic buildings will provide a variety of photographic opportunities. We will spend the entire day there on Tuesday and Thursday. Drop off and Pick up will be at Auburn Heights, just north on Rt. 82. You will get familiar with the basics of digital photography this week and put your skills to work!  Please bring your own camera and blank memory card daily. Laptops (with any photo viewer or editor) are welcome but not necessary.

    Young actors will learn the art of acting as we focus on developing a believable performance. Campers will explore all aspects of a stage performance from vocal projection to stage movement, stage terminology and character development to interaction with others.   • Art in 3 Dimensions or Think Outside the Box

    Explore a variety of materials to create unique, 3-Dimensional art. Use traditional materials such as clay and paper mache',and explore other materials as wire, cardboard, fabric, nature items, and more. Students will learn how to manipulate and mold materials to model their ideas. Using diverse materials throughout the week, you will have a different 3D art experience each day so you can think outside the box of 3D design.

  • Wood and Metal Combo Camp

    Safety first, Mom and Dad! Campers, you will have a ton of 3D fun creating small functional or decorative projects using wood and soft metal, some simple basics tools, glue, paint and hardware. Goggles are provided, or bring your own if you have them. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.

  • Angry Birds and Happy Campers

    Make your own bird and life size launcher, targets and structures. We will take them outdoors to put them to work and hve a blast building walls and knocking them down.

  • Write Your Own Magical Fantasy Story

    Imagine YOU as the author of your own fantasy story like Harry Potter, Narnia or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Learn how fantasy writers make their own books come to life. Write about wizards, fairies, dragons and your own made-up characters and lands. If you have a good imagination, this is your camp!

  • Crash Course in Comedy

    "Find the funny" - Humor is a learned art. Our comedic talents will discover the "funny" in creating sketches, improvisation and stand-up. Timing is everything, as well as knowing how to get the laughs. Campers and families will have a hilarious time as we perform on Friday. DVDs of our comedy performances can be purchased at the end of the camp and picked up the following week.

  • Masquerade Party

    Plan a party for up to 10 guests! During the week, you will create your own mask and invitations, decorate the auditorium, make party favors, and plan food and entertainment. You and your guests will return on Friday evening when the real party will take place! Wear your mask and have fun discovering who you know as guests arrive in disguise. All ARTScetera 2013 students are invited as well.

  • ARTScetera: Photo Spoof or "Light Imitating Art"

    Re-Create famous artists' portraits with costumes, settings and a little stage make-ip. Photograph your real life masterpiece and enjoy comparing the results. Imagine yourself as Vincent Van Gogh, a Degas ballerina, the President or First Lady, a king or queen or other celebrity. This is going to be a fun way to discover how artists capture not only the way a person looks, but a little something about their personality. Envelop yourself in the art world as you create artwork modeled after the masters, but with a twist.

    We have saved the best for last! We are eagerly awaiting the next Hunger Games movie, "Mockingjay" to be released this fall, and know you are as well. Celebrate the Hunger Games series with some creative projects and games of your own. Not to worry! All the "Victors" are expected to go home happy at the end of camp and no one will go hungry!

  • Fractured Fairy Tales

    What did Goldilocks have to do with the Big Bad Wolf, did Rapunzel meet up with the Seven Dwarfs, and did the Three Little Pigs really go to the ball with Cinderella? These are just some of the fractured fairy tales that our actors will perform. What a fun way to improvise as you perform y our unique tales on Friday for family and campers.

Instructor Biographies

Rachel Barton has appeared in numerous theatre and television productions, commercials and film. For over 30 years, she has inspired and motivated performing arts students by creating a fun and challenging learning environment.


Suzan Bergdoll wears many hats at CCArts. She is a student, member, volunteer and teacher. A creative spirit at heart, she has a wide range of artistic skills to share with campers. She especially loves hippie art and the color pink.


Steve Brown a.k.a. “Mr. Steve” has been an Asst. Camp Director for the past three years. An elementary school teacher, Mr. Steve’s interest in every child shines through in his interactions with campers. He is also a second degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and has been teaching for more than eight years.


Jennifer Domal has a BFA in Studio Arts concentrated in Sculpture and Crafts from West Chester University. Her interest in art began literally at the kitchen table with her mother, making traditional folk art and fine art. Sharing her passion for art with children is one of her greatest pleasures.


Megan Flachier has degrees in ceramics and sculpture, producing large scale mixed media sculptures. She has exhibited her work in New York, Tennessee, Georgia and Maryland. Megan also taught SMArts pottery classes last fall.


Ann Ferron is a seasoned art teacher at Patton Middle School in Unionville. She has two sons pursuing careers in the arts, and tells us, "If my sons were little they would spend the whole summer at SAGO! This is an incredible place for children to grow creatively, the adults are awesome and the kids are even better!"


Marla Handy is known affectionately as “Miss Marla”. She has been an
integral part of SAGO for the past three years as Asst. Camp Director, After Care
Coordinator, emergency substitute and all round good sport. She is eager to share her positive energy and ready smile with campers this summer!


Kristen Margiotta is an illustrator, fine artist and art instructor with a BFA from the University of Delaware. Her artwork is exhibited nationally and she has illustrated several books. The most recent publication is the Gustav Gloom series for young readers.

Kristin Neel began teaching “Camp GLEE” at SAGO 2012 and continued as the Children’s Theater Director and Voice Instructor during the school year. She is a graduate of West Chester University in Opera and Performance and loves to sing, dance, perform and encourage her students to do the same.


Shannon O’Brien has performed with the Longwood Dance Company and in musical theater productions, workshops and performances. Currently a senior at George Washington University, majoring in Dance and Speech Therapy, she enthusiastically shares her talent with SAGO campers.


Leslie Pickel believes the arts are an integral part of our community; something that should be cherished and shared with people from all walks of life. She looks forward to meeting SAGO campers and sharing her talents at CCArts.


Sara Rowe is a freelance writer with a BA in English Writing and history and MA in Children’s Literature. She has developed and instructed camps and workshops in creative writing for other local organizations and looks forward to teaching those skills at SAGO.


Jenna Schuck holds a BA in Studio Art from West Chester University with a focus on Printmaking, Painting and Photography. She exhibits her work locally and is a founding member of The Renaissance Academy, which strives to nurture future artists in our local community.


Val Schulte Val’s favorite playthings as a child were crayons, markers and glue. She was a master doodle-maker and avid scrap-booker. Val shares her love for creativity in paintings, mixed media and collage at SAGO.


Cynthia Swanson enjoys teaching art to students of all ages at CCArts and other local organizations. A painter with a BFA from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, she exhibits her work locally and nationally and is especially known for paintings that express her love of the outdoor world.

Matt Wolff Matthew is a recent graduate of West Chester University earning his Bachelors of Music in both Music Education and Vocal Performance. During his time at West Chester Matthew served in numerous leadership roles including two years as Drum Major of the Golden Rams Marching Band, Vice President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and President of West Chesters ACDA chapter. Passionate for performing, Matt has performed in ensembles from the Universities Opera company to the West Chester Concert Choir. In his spare time Matt enjoys teaching private voice and Marching Band during the fall. Matthew is greatly looking forward to joining the CC Arts staff and thanks them for the opportunity.
