Join us for two days of cup making and handle pulling. We’ll get our work bisqued and have a glaze day. Next, we will meet at a local coffee shop, who’s barista will describe technique and pull the perfect latte. A light snack will compliment our drink choice. Over time your cups will reveal themselves, sharing such things as handle, lip, and glaze nuances. No registration required for August 21st as this date will be meeting in a cafe to use your new cups.

  • Capture Summer in Clay Tiles With Center for the Creative Arts and Mt. Cuba Center
    Course Number: MTCUBA
    Ages: Teens and Adults

    Create a set of four beautiful clay tiles using flowers, leaves, and stems as design elements. In this collaboration between the Center for the Creative Arts and Mt. Cuba Center, explore Mt.Cuba’s delightful native plant garden, collect materials, and enjoy your picnic lunch in a shaded woodland. Bring plant material to CCArts to make tiles from clay using a slab roller. Incorporate collected plant material into your design. Your handmade tiles become lasting reminders of summer’s beauty. Pick up your fired tiles from the CCArts one week later. Bring your lunch and be prepared to walk outdoors.

We will be making a miniature stylized landscaped through carefully composed arrangements of rock, moss, sand and other tiny elements. Zen Buddhists use full size Zen gardens as a form of meditation. Making your own is very relaxing as well as fun! In this workshop you will be learning about this ancient practice and you will take home your own miniature Zen garden in which you can customize and tend to for years to come. Keep it at home or on your desk at work for a constant stress relief.
