  • Week 1: June 18 - 22

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Build your drawing skills by learning a variety of drawing techniques and exercises through the week. Students will explore charcoal and pencil and finish off the week in color using pastels. Explore and expand on drawing skills, value, lighting, line and composition. Draw from still lifes; interesting objects arranged for visual interest, so you can learn to draw what your eyes see and better coordinate hand eye movement. Quick drawing exercises allow you to see progression in your drawing abilities daily as you work toward final drawing(s). This is a great foundation for any future fine arts opportunity.



  • Week 1: June 18 - 22

    ARTScetera: Pottery on the Wheel

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Make functional or sculptural objects with earthenware clay. Approximately half of the camp time is spent on the potters wheel. Working with a professional potter, you will explore the unique qualities of clay that make it so much fun to manipulate. All projects will be fired in the kiln and need to be picked up at a later date. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.



  • Week 2: June 25 - 29

    ARTScetera: Drama Teens

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Love to act, write or sing? Then Drama Teens is your thing! Develop yourdrama dreams-learn how to act out scenes and monologues, how to audition, how to perform songs in the style of Broadway Musicals, or how to write a script to be performed. Each teen gets the chance to develop their individual artistic skills and showcase their talent in a staged performance on Friday.



  • Week 2: June 25 - 29

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Create huge habitats inspired by animal homes like bird nests or bee hives, "pods" that our human size bodies to fit into. These will be large scale sculptures that will enhance that CCArts landscape and make a fun escape for campers throughout the summer. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.



  • Week 3: July 2-6 (no camp July 4)

    ARTScetera: The Art of Cupcakes
    Course Number: 12PM0303
    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Discover the secrets of baking perfect cupcakes and find out how to kick it up a notch with "special" ingredients. Mix up icing that is just right for making flowers and other designs then go crazy with candy and everyday items to make your unique cupcake creations. Finally, you will find out how fondant flowers and creatures can top your perfect little cakes. With any luck, you will decorate enough cupcakes to take home and share! (Please consider food allergies before signing up for this camp.)



  • Week 3: July 2-6 (no camp July 4)

    ARTScetera: The Art of Printmaking
    Course Number: 12AM0304
    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Get to know the art of Printmaking, an ancient tradition with modern applications. Carve and cut your own designs into a printing plate or block using traditional carving tools, then ink it up with colors of your choice and print your original piece of art work. Explore traditional printmaking techniques such as linoleum and woodblock cuts, and use the printing press in this camp.



  • Week 4: July 9 - 13

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Get familiar with the basics of digital photography this week. Discover the important role of composition and lighting in good photographs. Do some basic digital photo-retoucing and manipulation as well. Please bring your own camera and blank memory card. If you can bring a laptop with any photo editor please do. If not, we will have a computer available to share.



  • Week 4: July 9 - 13

    ARTScetera: Rock and Roll Jamp Camp
    Course Number: 12PM0405
    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Jam with a real pro in a real rock band who has opened for national acts and performed with famous rockers. He will share some of his experience with you and give you a taste of what it's like to put your band together. Guitar, bass and keyboard players, drummers and singers are all welcome! Learn some new playing techniques, work on your stage presence and rock the CCArts building! (Please bring your own instrument. A limited number of instruments may be available. Please let us know if you need to borrow one.)



  • Week 5: July 16 - 20

    ARTScetera: Gingerbread Houses in July
    Course Number: 12PM0506
    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Use clay to create gingerbread houses that you will love to display in December and for years to come. These won't crack and crumble like crackers as they age and don't worry about the dog eating the candy decorations. They will be permanently attached! Houses will need to be fired and picked up at a later date. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.



  • Week 5: July 16 - 20

    ARTScetera: Realistic Art in Color

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Explore foundation drawing and painting skills using a variety of color media throughout the week from oil pastels to acrylics. Students will start day 1 of camp drawing in black and white, and concentrate on learning to draw what "they see", using line, and understanding value. The rest of the week, students will explore color media while focusing on a variety of subjects in their art from still life and working from photographs of the students choice featuring landscapes, animals, and more. Fine Art: Drawing, offered Week 1, is not required but is an excellent foundation that will greatly enhance your experience in this camp.



  • Week 6: July 23 - 27

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Design unique, wearable t-shirts inspired by the elaborate costumes of your favorite Hunger Games character. Create your own keepsake cornucopia of treasures. Make and enjoy foods to satisfy your hunger based on recipes from the poor District 12 to the wealthy Capital.



  • Week 6: July 23 - 27

    ARTScetera: Mosaic Birdbaths for Brandywine Valley Birds
    Course Number: 12PM0605
    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Make your own mosaic birdbath as you discover unique traits about local birds. Use mosaic tile to cover a terra cotta pot and saucer. The completed birdbath will be a one of a kind keepsake to use in your back yard while your family keeps an eye on those wonderful Brandywine Valley birds. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.



  • Week 7: July 30 - August 3

    ARTScetera: Clay Sculpture Animals and Field Trip

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Make keen observations of animals in natural settings at the Delaware Museum of Natual History on Monday. Back in the pottery studio at CCArts, work from your reference sketches and photographs to create life like animal sculptures with textures and features of the animal you choose. If time allows, you may also want to create a small environment for your creature to live in. Pieces will need to be fired and picked up at a later date. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp. *You will need to be dropped off and picked up at the Delaware Museum of Natural History on Monday ONLY.



  • Week 7: July 30 - August 3

    Oils are the ultimate paint for great color, workability, versatility, and durability. Using non-toxic oil paint, and guided by the expertise of a professional painter, you will enjoy discovering the unique qualities of oil painting that makes it such an important art medium.



  • Week 8: August 6 - 10

    Make your own fantasy tea pot. It can be functional or decorative, a fantastic hand built organic form decorated as you wish. Not your grandma's prim and proper pots, these will be inspired by images you may remember from The Cat in the Hat or other cartoons with colors and patterns of your own design. For even more fun, make a set of matching tea cups next week! Pots will be fired and ready for pick-up at a later date. Additional $10 materials fee for this camp.



  • Week 9: August 13 - 17

    You asked for it!  Figure Drawing for teen artists! Working with a professional artist and live model, you will learn how to draw the human body more accurately using traditional charcoal and chalk media. Your model will wear a bathing suit or leotard so that you can see the skeleton and muscles work together. Once you are able to capture the proportions in a variety of natural poses, it will be much easier for you to draw human figures in any pose and wearing any clothing.



  • Week 9: August 13 - 17

  • Week 10: August 20 - 24

    ARTScetera: Dark Sparks, a.k.a. "Art Light"

    Ages: 7th - 9th Grade

    Can you draw without drawing tools? Paint without painting materials? Yes, you can! Explore light and dark as creative art tools and discover how important they are in all artwork. Use light sources like flashlights, clip lights, lamps and natural sunlight to create silhouettes, shadow puppets and camera obscura.  Build sculptures from found objects like cereal boxes, water bottles and other junk that will cast a shadow to reveal a detailed vignette, awesome surprises for your viewers.
